Biotensegrity, the interplay of tension and compression in Pilates
Explore the principles of biotensegrity, a model of anatomical structure that profoundly informs how we move. Discover unique exercise sequences on the mat, reformer, chair and reformer with tower that require interplay of tension and compression in the whole body.
PAA: 3 PDP points

WORKSHOP: 1.30PM – 4.30PM
Connect the spine, pelvis, hip, knee, ankle and foot with fascia focused Pilates
The design and function of the neuromyofascial system relies on tissue continuity rather than the separation of muscles and joints, supporting whole body movement. Current research on fascia suggests new criteria for exercise sequencing, new choices of movement tempo and rhythm and different language for verbal cueing as well as clarification of the quality and direction of touch cues. Client case studies and an overview of current research on fascia in motion prepares Pilates teachers to apply these findings to mat, reformer and studio sequences.

This contemporary mat sequence without props is designed to address asymmetries in lateral translation, lateral flexion and rotation of the spine that can impede fluid movement.

WORKSHOP: 3.00PM – 6.00PM
Organising your thorax for optimal shoulder girdle function
A well organised thorax is the foundation for  a functional shoulder girdle. Movement sequences that integrate mat and apparatus exercises with a variety of somatic practices develop thoracic mobility in the coronal and transverse planes to support sagittal organisation, thoracic extension and multi-planar fluid movements of the shoulder girdle.

SUNDAY, 17 FEBRUARY

Turn with ease: spine rotation in the Pilates environment

WORKSHOP: 2.00PM – 5.00PM
Effective touch cues
While verbal cues are essential in providing a safe and functional movement experience, touch cues may be even more effective in conveying the specifics of complex movement relationships. Learn and practice informative, appropriate, efficient touch cues for a variety of exercises.
